Russell Buckingham

It is with both a sense of great sadness and a modicum of thanksgiving, that we record the death of dear Russell, one of our Churchwardens, after a long, horrid illness, bravely fought. He died at 7.40 a.m. on Wednesday 23rd October in Torbay Hospital.

At that time a number of St. Martin's people were on a coach tour of WW1 Battlefields in France and Belgium. Father Gorran held a Requiem Mass in a hotel room in Lille for those who fell in the Great War, and Russell was also remembered at this Mass. A Requiem Mass for him was also held at St. Martin's Church on Thursday Morning.

Below is a photo of Russell at the Dedication of our War Memorial in St. Martin's on 11th November 2018.

We are now able to announce the arrangements for his funeral:

This will take place in two stages:

Wednesday November 13th at 4.30.p.m.
Reception of the coffin into the Church, the service of Vespers for the Dead, and the lying of Russell overnight in Church.

Thursday November 14th at 1.00.p.m.
Requiem Mass Funeral Service, followed by burial in Torbay Cemetery, and then Reception in the Church Hall.

Everyone is welcome to attend these ceremonies, and we hope that we can give Russell the send-off he deserves, after his many years of devotion to our Church and Parish.

Our sincere condolences go to Helen and to all of Russell's family, both here and abroad, at this sad time. Our thanksgiving is that he may finally rest in peace and, in due time, we pray that he may rise in glory.

Jesu Mercy, Mary Pray.
